BSHS_ Head of Physical and Health Education

The British Secondary and High School Section of Taipei European School is looking to appoint an experienced and talented Head of Physical and Health Education to join our team of dedicated and experienced educators. The ideal candidate should preferably have experience in leading a department that delivers International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP), Career-related Programme (CP) and Diploma Programme (DP) courses. 

We are seeking a well-motivated and creative Head of Department who is eager to be part of a well-established, dynamic, and forward-thinking school. The successful candidate will be an excellent practitioner and middle leader who values collaboration and is dedicated to the holistic development of our enthusiastic and conscientious students. Experience in offering other movement modalities would be an asset.

The Head of Physical and Health Education is responsible for the leadership and management of all aspects of the department. As a member of the Curriculum Leadership Team, the Head of Department reports to the Assistant Head (Curriculum Leadership); the Assistant Head, in turn, reports directly to the Head of British Secondary and High School. The Head of Department also liaises with other members of the Senior Leadership Team when required on curriculum, pastoral and assessment matters.

Specific duties include:

• Overseeing pedagogical practices and classroom management within the department to ensure high-quality teaching and learning. This includes modelling excellent teaching practices to other teachers within the department and providing individual teachers with assistance and support when required, and the development of high-quality schemes of work and long-term plans for MYP and CP/DP.
• Oversight of the professional growth of team members and the direction of the department, guided by the TES and BSHS strategic plans. 
• Creating a departmental culture of high standards and collaboration, focusing on pedagogy and students' holistic development.
• Oversight of assessment and reporting within the department, in line with school policies. 
• Developing and overseeing opportunities for student engagement and showcasing learning beyond the classroom, including co-curricular performances.
• Collaboration with Head of Sports
• Budgeting and resource management.

1. A Bachelor of Education Degree from a recognised University; or

2. A Degree from a recognised University plus either;

a) Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) or equivalent, or a

b) Post Graduate Diploma of Education (PGDE) or equivalent.
