Manufacturing Engineer

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Manufacturing Engineer with expertise in extrusion machines to join our dynamic team at Addiction Foods NZ Ltd., a fast-growing pet food company. This role is critical in optimizing manufacturing processes, ensuring the efficient operation of extrusion equipment, and maintaining high-quality production standards. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of relevant experience in extrusion or a closely related manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Process Optimization:
- Develop, implement, and refine extrusion processes to maximize efficiency, minimize waste, and ensure product quality.
- Monitor and analyze production data to identify trends, address issues, and implement improvements.
Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot extrusion machines to ensure continuous operation.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
Quality Assurance:
- Work closely with the quality control team to ensure all products meet or exceed company and regulatory standards.
- Conduct regular testing and validation of extrusion processes to maintain consistent product specifications.
New Product Development Support:
- Assist in scaling up new formulations and recipes for pet food products.
- Provide technical input during the development phase to ensure manufacturability.
Continuous Improvement:
- Lead or support Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and increased throughput without compromising quality.
Training and Collaboration:
- Train production staff on the operation and safety of extrusion equipment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, maintenance, and production, to meet organizational goals.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with extrusion machines in a manufacturing environment (preferably in the pet food, food, or feed industry).
- Strong knowledge of extrusion processes, machinery, and related technologies.
- Proficiency in CAD software and manufacturing process simulation tools is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving production issues.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with team members across various levels.
- Familiarity with safety and quality standards, such as ISO, HACCP, or GMP, is highly desirable.
- Willing to work in New Zealand
Work Environment:
- This role requires working in a manufacturing plant environment with exposure to machinery noise, temperature variations, and raw materials.
- Periodic physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting, may be required.
