About the job:

Commodity Managers work with Engineering teams to make sure Google has the supplies and equipment to put into production the innovative products coming from our Engineering teams. As a Commodity Manager, you use your wide industry knowledge and strategic supplier relationships to optimize our total cost of ownership for our global -- and growing -- infrastructure. The scale at which Google operates means that savings on just one piece of hardware can have a huge impact on Google's bottom line.

As a Thermal Commodity Manager in the Cloud Supply Chain and Operations (CSCO), you will play a critical role in strategically managing supplier relationships and ensuring the timely delivery of quality materials. You will partner with Executive Thermal Global Commodity Managements (GCM). You will provide inputs to the commodity strategy and execute on them. You will help build, scale, and standardize first-tier and sub-tiers components that supply ecosystems with a high degree of effectiveness and efficiency with guidance from executive team members. You will lead cross-functional supplier selection, performance management through metrics and supplier reviews and drive exceptional supply chain improvements. You will engage with engineers on next generation technology initiatives by fostering vendor development of solutions and road maps. You will maintain a high sensitivity for industry/technology intelligence and market supply/demand conditions.

Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide input to commodity strategies and execute on them. Lead cross-functional teams through supplier selection for new platforms.
  • Partner with executive colleagues to conduct high-level discussion and secure comprehensive agreements with supplier executives.
  • Maintain high-level industry expertise and supplier/market conditions through research and convey market research for all data center thermal solutions.
  • Manage supplier performance in cost, quality, delivery and technology alignment through weekly meetings and scorecard reviews.
  • Implement supply chain improvements, quarter quoting, and cost reductions. Work with suppliers on material escalations.
