The Roku TV Technology Engineering team is responsible for delivering next-generation
TV feature innovation
— from early-stage
technology research and system architecture design
to full-scale
productization and global mass production
. We focus on core TV technologies like System Architecture, Picture Quality, Display, Audio and AI/ ML-powered enhancement, bringing tangible value to millions of users.

About the role

Roku is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead our TV Technology team in Hsinchu Taiwan. As a key technology leader, you'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to create a forward-looking
Technology Roadmap
, identifying opportunities for AI/ML-driven innovation in
Picture Quality
and
TV system intelligence
. You'll lead
Proof of Concept (PoC)
initiatives and drive successful transitions from prototype to mass production. You will define and execute Roku's
AI and technology innovation strategy
, focusing on
feature development that blends technical excellence, user experience, and cost mangement

What you will be doing

• Lead a high-impact engineering team focused on system architecture, display technologies, and TV innovation.
• Drive AI/ML-based feature exploration, prototyping and implementation (e.g., content-aware display tuning, smart image enhancement) as part of a broader PQ innovation portfolio.
• Partner with global universities, ODMs, and vendors on next-generation TV technologies.
• Translate advanced technologies into production-ready features for the Roku TV platform.
• Collaborate closely with product leaders to prioritize innovations based on feasibility, user impact, and cost-performance optimizations

We're excited if you have

• 15+ years of engineering leadership experience, with a proven track record of delivering innovation in the
  TV
  industry
• Passionate for full innovation lifecycle, including hands-on prototyping (software and hardware), and successfully driving concepts through the full development lifecycle to scalable, mass-production-ready solutions
• Strong presentation and stakeholder management skills, with fluency in both English and Mandarin.
• Familiarity with emerging trends in AI/ML for multimedia, display optimization, System Architecture, Picture Quality, Video Processing, and Display Technology.
• Excellent understanding of the cost structure of TV components and how emerging technologies can drive
  cost reductions
  while enhancing user experience.
• Deep industry and academic network in the relevant domains
• Track record of participating in industry conferences, and having a good understanding of display related technology trends
• AI literacy and curiosity. You have either 1) tried Gen AI in your previous work or outside of work or 2) are curious about Gen AI and have explored it.
