Middle School MYP Design 

An ideal candidate will have at least five years of teaching experience in a U.S. curriculum program and hold a valid teaching license. They should also demonstrate confidence with technology, a willingness to participate in the school's ASA program, and a commitment to leadership in a student-centered school that is continuing to develop an exemplary IB framework. KAS offers the MYP and DP programs in the high school, so IB experience is also preferable. 

We look for faculty members with a flexible "can do" approach to teaching and learning, a sense of humor, and a desire to contribute to school improvement as a team player. Additionally, our team is seeking faculty who share a commitment to engaging in a diverse professional community that is growing in its DEIJ principles and practices. We have a strong commitment to professional development which aligns with schoolwide and personal learning goals.

Preferred qualifications include: 

• Enthusiasm for working with colleagues to strengthen STEM and STEAM pathways. 
• Competence in digital design tools and familiarity with rapid prototyping technologies. 
• Ability to teach safe and effective use of maker-space tools and materials. 
• Experience in supporting inclusionary RTI practices, instructional coaching, and PLCs. 
• Experience with UDL unit planning, co-planning and co-teaching. 
• Recent IB MYP/DP training and current secondary teaching certification. 
• Strong understanding and respect for diverse cultures and the needs of language learners.
• Deep understanding of the IB MYP Design and DP Design Technology frameworks, including design cycles, assessment criteria, and inquiry-based approaches. 
• Has life experiences that demonstrate, among other things, a growth mindset, versatility, adaptability and resilience. 
• Effective communication skills utilizing a variety of mediums and techniques. 
• A willingness to engage in the school's Advisory program and facilitate SEL lessons that support student well-being.

About KAS: 

Kaohsiung American School (KAS) is a private, not-for-profit day school established in 1989 for the children of expatriate families in Kaohsiung. The school is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, and offers the IB's MYP and DP programmes. We receive annual grants and sponsorship from the US Department of State.

Kaohsiung American School moved into its beautiful, purpose-built campus buildings in 2015/2016. We are recognized as the premier international school in southern Taiwan.
