Etched is building AI chips that are hard-coded for individual model architectures. Our first product (Sohu) only supports transformers, but has an order of magnitude more throughput and lower latency than a B200. With Etched ASICs, you can build products that would be impossible with GPUs, like real-time video generation models and extremely deep & parallel chain-of-thought reasoning agents.

Job Summary

Etched is hiring a Taiwan Site Lead to build and lead our full Taiwan operations across Production, ASIC, Platform, Software, and Operations.

This is a senior general management role responsible for all Etched activities in Taiwan — including site leadership, operational execution, and organizational growth. The Taiwan Site Lead will develop and manage high-performing teams, align local execution with global priorities, and ensure Etched's Taiwan operations operate with excellence, cohesion, and speed.

You will play a critical role in shaping how Etched scales globally — establishing the Taiwan site as a core hub for engineering, manufacturing, and operational collaboration.

Key responsibilities

Site Leadership & Operations

• Build and lead Etched's Taiwan site as a multi-functional, high-performance organization.

• Own day-to-day operations across engineering, production, and business functions in Taiwan.

• Set and drive local execution priorities aligned with Etched's global roadmap.

• Oversee office operations, infrastructure, IT, and administrative processes to ensure a world-class working environment.

• Manage site-level financial and headcount planning, ensuring efficient growth and resource allocation.

Cross-Functional Execution

• Lead coordination across Taiwan-based teams in ASIC, Production, Platform, and Software.

• Ensure clear communication and alignment between Taiwan and global teams on goals, timelines, and deliverables.

• Build scalable mechanisms for program tracking, reporting, and decision-making across functional boundaries.

• Anticipate operational risks and drive proactive resolution to maintain delivery and quality standards.

Strategy & Growth

• Define and execute Etched's long-term strategy for Taiwan, including site scaling, talent development, and infrastructure expansion.

• Establish strong relationships with local partners, vendors, and government stakeholders to support growth and compliance.

• Represent Etched's mission and interests in Taiwan's technology ecosystem, driving visibility and credibility.

• Identify and pursue opportunities for operational innovation and efficiency improvements across functions.

Culture & People

• Build and sustain a high-ownership, high-accountability culture consistent with Etched's values.

• Recruit, develop, and retain exceptional talent across engineering and operational roles.

• Promote collaboration, transparency, and shared context between Taiwan and global teams.

You may be a good fit if you have

• 15 years of experience leading large, cross-functional teams in technology, manufacturing, or semiconductor environments.

• Proven success managing complex organizations with both engineering and operational components.

• Deep understanding of Taiwan's technology ecosystem — including supply chain, talent market, and regulatory landscape.

• Strong leadership and communication skills in both Mandarin and English.

• Demonstrated ability to build organizational structure, drive execution, and scale operations.

• Track record of operational excellence and disciplined execution in fast-paced settings.

Strong candidates may also have experience with

• Experience in AI hardware, semiconductors, or datacenter-scale systems.

• Prior leadership in a global technology company or high-growth startup environment.

• Familiarity with cross-border organizational management and multi-site scaling.

How we're different

Etched believes in the Bitter Lesson. We think most of the progress in the AI field has come from using more FLOPs to train and run models, and the best way to get more FLOPs is to build model-specific hardware. Larger and larger training runs encourage companies to consolidate around fewer model architectures, which creates a market for single-model ASICs.

We are a fully in-person team in San Jose and Taipei, and greatly value engineering skills. We do not have boundaries between engineering and research, and we expect all of our technical staff to contribute to both as needed.
